Last night (4/31), the Brooklyn Nets faced off against the Trail Blazers but came short, losing 128-109.
Analysis
The Nets played a strong first and second quarter scoring 25 and 32 points, respectively. The first quarter could be characterized by domination in the post from the Nets. However, with a slower second half and lack of 3 pointers and jump shots, the Blazers pulled ahead in the third and fourth quarter. The Nets depended heavily on points from players: Kyrie Irving, Mike James, and Jeff Green. However, with the absence of Kevin Durant and James Harden (due to injury), the Nets lacked the scoring power necessary to defeat the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Nets’ defense struggled to stop Damian Lillard’s tremendous shooting from behind the arch. Lillard scored 32 points while shooting 61.5% from the 3. However, the game wasn’t one sided- the Nets played strong post defense limiting most of the Blazer’s big men. However, with Durant and Harden sitting out, there simply wasn’t all that much they could do. I hope to see a better performance from them tomorrow night against the Bucks, as they should have all of their starters back!
